Our Story
Eclectic since 1978.
Downtown Roanoke, 1978. Richard Macher opened the first Macado's — and it didn't take long to become known for two things: hearty, modestly-priced sandwiches, and an ambiance like nowhere else, with cartoon, antique, and local nostalgic decor covering every wall.
Popular with the college crowd, locations followed near Virginia Tech, Radford University, and Roanoke College — then across Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee, growing one or two a year.
The menu has grown with us, and so have the traditions — the annual St. Patrick's Day Party and the Macado's Halloween Party have become events our customers build their own traditions around.
See you at the DO's! 🧡
